SENSATIONS

An interactive performance that puts your inner world in the spotlight.

For SENSATIONS, youth theatre company BonteHond and theatre collective Schweigman& are joining forces for the first time. Dive into a stimulating world with BonteHond and Schweigman&, and explore which sensations feel nice, fun, exciting, annoying, or funny — and when we want less or more of them. Open all your senses — and close them too, when needed!

About SENSATIONS
Often, we can’t really see from the outside what’s happening on the inside.

SENSATIONS puts your inner world in the spotlight. Our body is the space where our inner world resides — like a house. What if your house has thin walls or thick ones? Lots of windows and doors? And what if you can’t close them properly, or if they’re always tightly shut? Sometimes your house feels cramped, other times there’s plenty of space. One moment everything and everyone can come in, and the next nothing and no one can. What does your house feel like?

In SENSATIONS, three performers take you on a physical and musical journey through the world of your senses. They explore all kinds of feelings triggered by sensory input — like a restless body, a buzzing head, or feeling so open that everything hits you hard.

Together with the audience, the performers discover what a person needs to feel comfortable, to process, and to recover. How do we find out what truly feels good to us? How do we tune in to others?

A Show Without Labels
Young people today are increasingly dealing with overstimulation and burnout. At the same time, more and more labels and diagnoses are being attached to behavior — like ADHD, ADD, Autism Spectrum, Dyslexia, High Sensitivity, etc. This performance starts from the idea that everyone has their own sensory processing system. And even without a diagnosis, it’s incredibly valuable to become aware of how the world enters your system, what kind of input you need, when it becomes too much, how you process it, and how you recover. By getting to know yourself in this way, you also learn to recognize that others might work very differently. And that’s perfectly okay.

ABOUT BONTEHOND

BonteHond is the youth theatre company of Almere / Flevoland. We make anarchistic and physical theatre for all ages. Our work always bends reality and refuses to be boxed in. Since our ‘birth’ in 2005, we’ve grown considerably. We perform from Almere to Bangalore — in theatres and football clubhouses, at summer festivals and busy schools. We’re also heavily involved in educational programs. In everything we do, we encourage broad and autonomous thinking. Stay true to yourself and don’t let anyone put you in a straitjacket. At BonteHond, “childish” is never an insult.

ABOUT SCHWEIGMAN&

Schweigman&, based in Utrecht, has developed a unique approach to performing arts over the past 20 years. As a visitor, you enter enchanting worlds where your senses are at play. In performances, installations, and educational programs, Schweigman& places the body and physical experience at the center — both for the performer and the audience. The company’s work tours nationally and internationally and has received numerous awards.
